We asked Darcy from My Echo a handful of questions, and he was kind enough to answer them for us! Here’s what he’s got to say:

How did My Echo come together? Where did you all meet?

We all grew up in a small town and were fans of punk rock etc. You kind of just meet everyone who was in to that sort of thing by attending local shows.

Can you tell us a bit about the recording process for My Echo’s new self-titled release? There’s a rumour that it was tracked to tape!

The EP was recorded with local legend and producer Hadyn Buxton at Melbourne’s iconic Sing Sing Studios. We set up base over a week period in the amazing neve’ room. And yes, we record to tape!

It was such a challenging and rewarding experience for us. We really wanted to capture our raw live sound as best we could. Luckily for us there was inspiration all over the walls of that place. There have been so many incredible records recorded in that building.

The new release is coming out through Ten To Two Records, what’s the record label experience been like thus far?

Our relationship with Tentotwo is fairly new but the team there is incredible! They are so much fun to work with and look after a really great roster of mixed artists. They just put out Chuck Ragan’s new record locally as well which we are all pretty stoked about. Generally great people doing really amazing things!

Let’s step back for a moment, do you guys have any hobbies outside of music?

A few of us are in to classic bikes and cars and we all love our footy. Can drinking beer be considered a hobby?

One of our favourite questions to ask, is what was the first album you bought as a kid? And how about the first concert you went to?

Darcy – First album was AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’, and first concert was Silverchair.
Henry – First album was Spice Girls ‘Spice Up Your Life’, and first concert was For Amusement Only.
Brenton – First album was Paul Kelly’s ‘Under The Sun’, and first concert was Silverchair.
Tom – First album was The Living End’s ‘Self Titled’, and first concert was The Living End.

Any music you’ve been listening to lately? Or perhaps, any albums that are tour essentials?

The new Against Me!, Ceres and Luca Brasi records are fantastic! While on the road we all take turns as road DJ so its pretty varied. AC/DC seems to start off most long trips.

Speaking of tour, how do My Echo kill time on those long drives?

For some reason we all really enjoy getting on the road and having a long drive before a show. A few tins with good chats and good tunes in good company is a pretty good time in our book.

We think Australian music is the bomb, can you recommend any local bands we should keep our eyes on?

Are you ready for this? Captives, The Sinking Teeth, Waits, Born Lion, Gay Paris, Ceres, Luca Brasi, Tigers, Daybreak, Jonesez – shit I could go on and on!

A tough question, but any plans for the remainder of 2014?

Our new EP comes out on May 2 – pre orders available now through iTunes! From there we are hitting the road throughout May. Things kick off in Bendigo at Groovin The Moo, then we will hit up Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and end things up at the Northcote Social Club on May 30 with the legends that make up The Ramshackle Army and Captives.

Thanks for taking the time to chat to us!
