The Music Victoria membership drive wrapped up last night with an increase in membership of more than 100% and a wrap party featuring performances by Dan Sultan, Brous, Graveyard Train and Courtney Barnett.
With over 1600 subscribers and 300 new members signing up during the membership drive and many more pledging to join in the coming weeks, Victoria has clearly decided to Jump on the Bandwagon and support the peak body for contemporary music. There is still time to join as a paid up member with membership open year round.
Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan announced the huge success of the membership drive that ran from the 16th to 30th of April at last night’s wrap party held at the Corner Hotel.
“We’ve been really blown away by the support we’ve received from the industry and community. Victorians love their music, they have always got behind their passion, because they know it is unique and is supported by a fragile eco system. The artists who have performed tonight are a tremendous example of our wonderfully talented and diverse music scene.’’ Donovan said of the evening.
Memberships will help Music Victoria provide regular professional development sessions all over the state as well as important research on working entitlements for artists, under age gigs, access to Centrelink and industry internships. It will also continue to advocate on vital issues such as minimum radio quotas, parking permits for musicians, and the all important Agent of Change issue to protect existing venues against encroaching development.
The drive prize winners will be contacted over the next. If you haven’t joined as a paid up member you can still “Jump On The Bandwagon” and join fellow Music Victoria members Kylie Minogue, The Temper Trap, Paul Kelly, Adalita and Muscles.
