DONE FOR – RUN FROM YOUR PROBLEMS

Hardcore music is a beautiful thing. Though it is stereotyped (usually by dickheads) as the heavier and more aggressive younger brother of punk rock, the genre is filled with a broad spectrum of bands out to convey a bunch of different messages and feelings, be it positive or negative, political or emotional, party drunk or straight edge, hardcore, in all it’s various forms, is so diverse that it’s always interesting to see how new, young bands put their own spin on the genre. Brisbane Done For have taken an outside the box approach, on their new EP, Run From Your Problems, that will not only break your heart, but rip your face off in the process.

Done For have been making waves as of late, finding their name sharing show fliers with some amazing and well respected acts and creeping their way higher and higher up those bills. Now with the backing of Brisbane hardcore/punk label Arrest Records, then Melodic Hardcore quartet are set for a huge 2012 on the back of what is a cracking EP.

Recorded by Sam Saljooghi at Blackhole Studios and sent abroad for mixing and mastering by none other than Defeater guitarist Jay Maas (who has worked with bands the calibre of Verse, No Trigger, Bane, Shipwreck and even our own local mosh-champions, Carpathian, so you know it’s going to sound huge!), Run From Your Problems is a collection of 6 beautifully crafted tales of discontent, that will take you through a series of highs and lows and lowers.

Musically, the band know how to keep things interesting and know when ‘heavy’ is appropriate, but also how to break it up and leave the listener guessing where each track is going to trail off too and it’s all topped off with the heart felt and in your face vocal delivery and honest lyrical content of front man Coen Keyte.

Done For have nailed a sound that a lot of bands have, in my humble opinion, tried and totally butchered. I have heard the term “depresso-core” thrown around to describe bands playing this vein of hardcore, but the songs on Run From Your Life seems to focus less on the “depresso” and more on the “core” and even though this record is buried in dark and anger, the sound of a young and hungry hardcore band is what really shines through. That’s why it’s so great and why I’d gladly let these dudes play in my living room.
