My name is Jay, and I’m an alco… oops, force of habit

What are you doing for CaM, and what do you do the rest of the time?

My official job title is “copypasta on the Twitter page guy”. The rest of the time is split up between singing and playing guitar in Melbourne celtic folk punk band Between The Wars, finishing uni, teaching guitar, and being a dad of two awesome hobbits.

Where are you (when you’re at home)?

You can reach me via carrier pigeon at: On the beach, M-Town, Vic.

When did you first start being into awesome music?

Dad worked at a Melbourne radio station that played “oldies” back in the day, so I grew up around that. Then one night at the Mulgrave Country Club, I saw a band called The Runaway Boys playing Elvis covers in the main room. That band grew up to become The Living End. I guess you can say I’ve had a love for punk ever since.

How did you first get into the music you love?
Are you not listening? Am I invisible? Someone pinch me. Hello? Is it me you’re looking for?

Who are your top 3 Australian bands? The Ramshackle Army out of M-Town, The Rumjacks out of Sidknee, and Sole Stickers out of Tasmanautica. Special, special mention to Isaac Graham because I just love that dude and you didn’t mention singer/songwriters.

What’s your favorite/best live show you’ve been to?
Frank Turner at the Arthouse just before it closed down in April 2011. Shit was off the hook/cash/etc.

Which upcoming band do you reckon people should watch out for?I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Between The Wars because I have a stake in it, but I love Graft vs Host (amazing Melbourne band), Cavalcade and McAlpine’s Fusiliers.

What’s your favourite place to chuck a mosh?

It used to be the Arthouse. Now I guess it’s a toss-up between the Penny Black, the Victoria Hotel and the Retreat Hotel. All quality venues, supplying Melbournians with top notch tunes!
