Electrik Dynamite – Geelong West Town Hall

9th of September, 2011.

There’s nothing better about going to a show where everyone’s there to have a great time. Even more so when not only you can see it in the crowd that they’re having a great time, but when you can see the thrilling amount of energy a band put into their shows. I guess you could call it “Partying like it’s ‘85” because that’s exactly what the all ages scene of Geelong and Electrik Dynamite did.

On the third show of the eastern-Australia tour for their incredible debut album “HAIR.DENIM.SEX.METAL” tour, the dudes and dudette from Melbourne cruised through a day of 4 seasons with The Red Shore’s trailer on the back of their van, and rocked up to the Town Hall in style. That time was when the excitement really kicked in for me. I had been waiting over a year to see them again, and their 45 minute set was an absolute blast. Although playing at a big venue with only 100 people in it, everyone was still going nuts and enjoying themselves. The thing that caught my eye the most was every band member’s stage presence. This was the fourth time I’ve saw them and no matter how big the venue is they’re always running around like maniacs! For a band that associates more with the hardcore and punk rock scene than their own, they never fail at pleasing the crowd, no matter what bands they’re playing a show with.
Almost all of the songs they played were off their brand new album and were unrecognised to most, but they played the title track off their EP “Electrify the Night”, which really got the long time fans fuelled up with energy. Their singer, Maverick, ran to the back of the hall and walked back towards the diehard madsnakes in the crowd, as they pushed and shoved to take the microphone from his hand.
With a set full of headbanging, shredding, moshing and partying, it’s safe to say that this has been one of my favourite gigs of the year so far. I highly recommend anyone who’s reading this to hit up an Electrik Dynamite show near them, they never disappoint. They’ve still got a few shows left on their “HAIR.DENIM.SEX.METAL” east-coast tour, which are across New South Wales, Queensland and back in Victoria. One of those shows will be opening up for My Children, My Bride (USA).
